Perfect lightening on this last Bambi shot :) Love the shadow.

I agree with wud. Your lighting is terrific especially considering the deer was somewhat back lit. Quite often a back lit subject either falls into silhouette or the background gets overexposed. Nice job! :)

Umm...this wasn't HDR, was it?

Nope, not HDR. I've found that in the snow I need to shoot +0.7EV with the D800 to avoid critters being too dark. I used Viveza 2 and Perfect Effects 8's Dynamic Contrast filters to pull some of the details out of the deer, while maintaining the darkness of the shadow.

It's not just the humans complaining about the weather here lately...

Note: I put my Sigma 150-500mm on my D800 yesterday to take some shots and was not happy with the clarity of the images. It's as if diffraction is impacting the image (diffraction on the D800 sensor is supposed to set in around f/8-9 and I'm wondering if it's more noticeable on longer lenses?). I'll post more on this in a separate post later today.

Managed a bunch today, all on a whim, all LR-only processed.

First a shot I squeezed off of some flowers with my 70-200mm. Wasn't expecting much at all, but loved the way the natural light managed a nice vignette, which I've since enhanced a bit. Seriously stunned at how much I like this rather random shot.

Next, a couple birds on the deck. First a female Cardinal scouting for food. Then a Dark Eyed Junco that was hopping around hopelessly trying to dig up some of the ice to uncover seed - caught mid-hop.

And finally, our "pet deer", that appears regularly throughout the day to feed below the bird feeders. Apparently she's gotten rather comfortable and has decided to recline while eating. Normally she beds down just behind the property line. No worries, she gets around just fine.

I like the flowers too. All your wildlife shots are great today. Do you ever put out food for the deer?

We did the first year we were here and they ate it, and then all the first year trees we put in. They are happy eating the bird seed we throw out there. The field behind us has gone fallow for 5 years now, and there are lots of grasses, shrubs and stuff to nibble on back there.

That is just beautiful! What is that flower?

I have no idea whatsoever. I can tell you that the stalk in the photo is less than 4" tall, so it appears much larger than it really is.

Yesterday was a day I really didn't feel like taking pictures. Managed to force myself to squeeze off a couple if only for the sake of the 365. Wasn't happy with them last night, but I'm feeling a little better about them this morning.

I really like the diner shot.... I have all the diners in the NE in my GPS and when out riding, tend to look for them to grab a meal!

It was taken in my Family Room - it's in an arrangement my wife received from her brother for her birthday that was on its last legs. As I said, a shot on a whim as I passed thru, natural light.

Sometimes you go out looking to photograph one thing and then find something utterly... um... different. And mildly disturbing.

This is actually hanging from the eaves of one of our favorite gastropubs, Black & Blue in Easton, PA. The owners are, well, a little dark humored, and this is a doll called "Dagger Baby" that is normally far less occupied. Had to laugh when I saw this today as I was failing to capture the courthouse across the street.
