Hey guys,

Been coming around here ready for a few weeks. Make a long store my wife let me get a real camera D3100 over the little point and click one we had.

Anyway this is the first real photo I have tried to take and would like some input on it. Thanks

It's a good shot but I think it could be better. Since the waterfall is the subject, let's put move it off-center to add a visual dynamic and get rid of some of that distracting foreground... Rule of Thirds to the rescue! The color is good, but there's a tiny shift toward the blue so let's remove that, up the contrast a bit to get some "pop", sharpen things slightly and see what we get. The shot is well exposed and you've done a nice job getting the water to look soft without going totally foggy. That can be a tough balance to achieve, IMO, and I think you've really nailed it here.

Thanks for your input. I ended up taking about 155 photos yesterday. and tried to use some of the things I learned from reading on here.

Absolutely terrible... Just kidding! I love the slow shutter look on waterfalls. I think it's a great picture, and agree with HoroscopeFish. Bump up the contrast and clarity a bit since it's not people, and you are golden. Impressive that you didn't get any blurring, must have been not a windy day? Wish we had those in Michigan!! haha.

Nice shot, and I, too, agree with Fish about cropping differently. However, this would be my take on this shot:

There are so many different ways to crop this shot and make it look good. Experiment with the shot and see what YOU come up with. Just takes a little practice and a discerning eye to get what you'd like to see. :)

Oh don't worry I did get some blurring on some of the photos, just lucked out on a few. Here are a few others I took also.

I absolutely concur with Horoscope Fish . . . nice editing improvement for a lovely photo.

I would go one step further. I would have liked to see a little more of the top of the waterfall and thereby having it at the intersection of the right and bottom thirds. (kind of difficult to put something back). It looks like there was some pretty foliage and interesting lighting toward the top . . . good info for next time, maybe.

As it is, I think this version is about as good as it can get. Keep up the good work and welcome to the forum!

I notice you tend to center you're shots. Thats ok if you leave room enough to crop later on. Like the other post said. RULE OF THIRDS. Other than that great shots.
