I had been sat in a hide in a Kent Wildlife Trust reserve in Sevenoaks for so long, my bum was numb from sitting on the unyeilding wooden seat and to top it all, I had had no luck at all. With everything packed away, save my D300 with the 18 - 200mm zoom attached, I was ready to make tracks for a nice cup of tea, when this Robin flew down and settled on the window of the hide. I ran off a few shots before I caught this shot as the Robin flew right in to the hide, perched on the roof beam and then flew around and back out of the window. Just as well I had the camera set to P and the lens on AF and VR.

That's cool but I feel your shutter speed is too low. Imagine the photo with a shutter speed much faster? I understand moments like these don't come everyday though!

First off, let me appologise for not posting much on the forum since joining. I have had a huge amount of work this summer, leaving little time for anything else. Not that I am complaining about that in these tough times.

To some extent I agree that a higher shutter speed might have been better, but I thought that the blur off the wings gave a good sense of motion. Thanks for the observation though, perhaps if I manage to get out for photo session in a while, a similar opportunity will present itself & I can take heed of your advice.

I see what you mean, using a slow shutter speed can give the impression of motion, I understand. If that's what you're going for then great. I think it's down to personal taste. Some like to show motion while others like myself like to freeze it solid. :)
