D5100 Remote Control

my camera kit came with a Vivitar VIV-RC6-NIK remote control. The package says it works with Nikon, but I can get it to work. Can any one help me? I think I have the camera set correctly.

You understand that you have too set the camera's menus to accept the infrared trigger as the shutter release, right???

woohoo, i figured it out. just needed one more cup of coffee. I was in the wrong menu place. Still learning.

I see that Amazon sells a Photive ML-L3 Wireless Shutter Release Remote for $7.95. It claims to be a substitute for the Nikon product. Has anyone bought one? With a handful of exceptions, most buyers seem to like it.

It should work ok but it's a bit pricey. Just got a battery grip and got one free. If you were this side of the water you could have it,these abound on ebay. Bought one a while ago for under £2 new. Polaroid in the UK is just a name printed on budget goods.It's the sort of cheaper item I will buy direct from China and take the risk.

My gosh, they are cheap aren't they? I had no idea. Clever the way the remote control is emblazoned with the actual Nikon logo and For just ahead if the logo. These are an easy product to replicate it seems.

I paid £1.69 including P&P and battery, works perfect, you can even get different colours, orange,purple,black.
Not worth paying any more just for genuine Nikon as it wont work any better.
