Dave, this is the first picture that I could think of taken with my D7000, Nikon 20-200VR F2.8 using the Nikon TC20E III 2x teleconverter. By the way this was taken handheld. This is not a very good picture wise because it is too busy but I just wanted to see what this combination would do. This was taken at 200mm with the 2x converter and when you figure in the crop factor it would be taken at the equivalent of 600mm on a film camera, and remember that this was taken handheld. A friend of mine had the Nikon 1.7 TC and after borrowing mine he sold his on Ebay to get this one. The picture below was taken at a distance of about 10ft. and also cropped.

Reviews at B&H Camera This is the one I own. Make sure it is the newer model III and not the II version.

That's nice and very sharp. One of the more common issues sited in the reviews on Amazon usually centers around speed of focus and focus searching and the claim that the 1.7 doesn't exhibit as much delay. Did you notice any significant change in focus speed while using the 2.0 TC?

Give me a few minutes and I will go out to my car and get my lenses and shoot a few frames. I don't remember it changing much but I will let you know shortly.

I put my Nikon 70-200VR F2.8 on my D7000 and shot a couple of frames. Then I added the Nikon TC-20E III to it and really didn't notice any difference. IF, there is a difference, its not much. To me it is about the same, with or without the TC.

I have a couple of Sigma lenses and really like both of them. A good friend of mine has the Sigma 300-800 and it takes really sharp pictures will be selling it shortly due to being out of work.

I'm going to be the stick in the mud and say there's a very good reason not to buy it - it's a Sigma and not a Nikkor lens. You lose resale value and I've yet to find a case where a non-Nikkor lens is equal or better than the corresponding Nikkor lens. I've heard the Sigma 24-70mm VR is a darn good lens but not quite as sharp as the Nikkor but it does have VR. That said, Nikkor will be unavailing their new 24-70mm VR lens later this year or early next year and it will be interesting to learn how the two lenses compare to one another.

bigal1000,Mojo Dave I beleive is right in his thoughts, but I already have aNikkor 50mm1.4 and a Tamron 90mm2.8.The 120-300mm would be my next lens to keep the lenses in perspective. My Sigma 50-500mm doesn't count being a F6.3.I don't count my Sigma 70-300mmF4.5 either.I have fallen in love with the F2.8's lol Sharper images. It's my Nikon D90 that makes these lenses preform so well.
