Different size picture

Does anyone know why when you take a picture by looking into the viewfinder, the actual picture is wider than when taken by using the rear monitor?

I always use the viewfinder, but today after taking a picture using the monitor, and comparing the two pictures, the monitor is missing about 25cm in real size...

Just supposing here, but could it be the visual difference of the holding the camera about 2 feet (60cm) in front of your face instead of tight to your eye?

I tried to replicate what I think you mean, assuming that you are working with a mirrorless camera, I put my camera on a tripod, zoomed in the lens so I had one tree to the left and a corner of a house to the right. I made this with the monitor. When I looked in the EVF I saw the exact same picture. I took a photo, viewed it in the monitor (exactly the same) and viewed it in the EVF (exactly the same).
If you however have a DSLR it could be some differences between what you see in the viewer and the actual photo, but since I sold my DSLR some 9 years ago I cannot confirm that.

I'm getting old, and yes BF Hammer got it right and made me thinking again... That 25cm difference in the picture is the same gap I had between my face and the monitor when I took the second picture... While using the same point of reference in the actual picture on one side, I was moving the camera forward to see the monitor as I was sitting down... Don't I feel stupid now... 🤦‍♂️

It is all downhill from here... 😳

Yes, I do use the Nikon Z7II, (that's also why I posted in this section)... It was a silly mistake on my part, I never noticed the difference before, but yesterday, I was just testing the new lens and I was doing it while sitting down, so I was moving the camera forward to be able to see the monitor, while normally when taking pictures standing up, you move backward to fit the same image...

The joy of getting old... ;)
