Seem there are reports of Jays doing this. There seems to be several theories other than sunning. They seem to think its related to parasites depending on the theory they are trying to use the heat to drive them away or use ants to accomplish this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anting_(behavior). Any way a first for me.Some birds do this to cover their food so others don't get to it, but I've never seen a Jay do anything like this. Interesting.
