Can't get the automatic sensor cleaning to work.

Go to Clean Image Sensor.
Next menu, Automatic Cleaning Off. Click on that.
Next menu Off Clean at Shutdown, below
Cleaning off.

I select Off Clean at Shutdown, press OK.

From main menu select Clean Image Sensor.
Next menu Automatic Cleaning Off.

I there an icon before or after the message that in one state there is a line through it and the other no strike through? I think its just confusing terminology. But someone with a Z camera can give a better answer.

My Z8 has the same menu. When you choose clean at shutdown, it gives the cleaning symbol with an OFF next to it when it goes back one step in the menu. When you choose cleaning off, you get the cleaning symbol with a diagonal line through it. I found a short video on Youtube that shows it and it says the symbol with the OFF means clean when you turn it off. As Needa said, it's just a confusing icon.

Here's the video link

When I do a manual activation of cleaning the sensor on my Z6iii, it shows "Ready" after a fraction of a second. No sound can be heard.
When I activate automatic cleaning and shut down the camera, it probably do a cleaning so quick that you don't notice it.
When I had the Z6(i) it took a couple of seconds to to the same.

Yes, Nikon should make this setting more clear. Thank you
