Constrained cropping

Does anyone know how LR or PS can be adjusted to give constrained crops? I realize you can crop by dragging the corner at a 45 degree angle but it's less than perfect. I would like to keep my X/Y axis ratio constant but so far I've not figured out how to do this but I've gotta believe it's doable and that I'm just missing something simple.

TIA

That's the way I've been doing it. I didn't realize a problem. I also use the measured crop for common size prints. I'd be interested to know if there is a crop ratio problem.

In LR I just click on crop overlay and click to the right of the word "aspect". It will open a box listing the common aspect ratios. Once selected, it will preserve the ratio as you change the crop.

Awesome!! That's *exactly* what I was looking for, thank you Rick! And now that I'm playing with it, I see lots of different crop options. For reasons I'm not quite sure of, I never tried right-clicking the image when I was in crop mode. But once I did, I see all the goodies I was looking for.

Can't help with LR, but in PS if you hold Shift whilst resizing you crop-box, it will constrain the aspect ratio. You can also use the rectangular marquee and set the aspect ratio to whatever you like using the "H" and "W" boxes at the top of the window.
