Firmware updates

When new firmware updates are issued, the reasons for the updates are stated in the update data. Are there also unstated reasons for the upgrade i.e. fixes also included?

Speaking as a service tech for Kyocera printers, yes there often is. But only engineers would have that information. With that, I am normally encouraged to keep printers up to date in firmware and technical support often will focus on that if I ask for help with a problem.

As for Nikon, no way to know without asking their engineers. I do updates when I find I am behind. I check about 2-3 times a year when I think about it.

FYI: there are also "developmental" firmware that don't get issued for users to apply, but sometimes it fixes some specific problem that 99.9% of the installed user base will not see. Service centers may install those if they exist.
