I think you're right Sam. Now that it's on the brain there's no turning back! My wife has finally stopped rolling her eyes, so that's a good sign that the initial impact is wearing off. In a few weeks I'll recommend she go shoe shopping and I'll make my move :). Apparently shoes are like lenses, 30 pairs is not enough!

I ended up going against my original thoughts. I decided to go with the kit lens and get a 50mm1.8 G for now. The kit will get me going with some range and I'll get the 50 1.8 in a week for more serious stuff. Since I really like wide the most, I'll save for the 16-35. Boy, Having to wait to charge a new battery the first time is painful!

I've ordered the D600. It should get to my local store either this week or early next week.

I will sell my D700 with MB-10, D90.

I will have then the 600 and 7000 using the same batteries and similar controls.

After lugging the 700 on the plane last week, I will appreciate the lighter model and the extra definition.

I made the plunge. This is a great camera. I just took my first few shots at dusk. It was about 7:45pm and nearly dark. The larger sensor blew it up and the photo came out looking as if it was 5pm. The larager viewfinder is amazing.

Excellent! FF has better light gathering compared to the DX counterparts. You usually get 1 stop better than the D7000.

I've only been able to shoot in the evening sofar, it is amazing. The viewfinder and controls are awesome, no more digging through menues!

I did get off to a rough start. The first body had a huge amount of dust on the sensor. When I came home after my first few shots it looked like a flock of birds in my sunset! I did a dust test and it was all over the top and left third of the sensor. I went back to my dealer the next day, tested two bodies in the store and came home with one I knew was dust free. This local dealer is fantastic, sells at or below BH photo prices and I can test everything before buying ( I did not test for dust originally).

If I had bought this camera online and had that problem I would have been going nuts for at least a week!

So true. Sometimes, buying locally has big advantages over online purchasing. I got mine from Amazon. I haven't had any issues thus far. I'm missing having a battery grip on my camera. As soon as the MB-D14 is available, I'm getting it.

All of our local camera shops have been run out of business by the "Box stores." My nearest privately-owned shop is 2 hours away. What's your local dealer saying about MB-D14 grip availability? How long of a wait is he anticipating before he has them in stock?

I asked one of the employees there about registering online and he told me not to because it started the 1 year clock with the serial number. He said if I had a problem to come to them first because they can get things done through the reps they deal with. They had the D600 in stock on the 19th, all other dealers in the area won't until next week. The reason is they pay nikon immediately, most other dealers are on a 30-60 credit cycle, he had these sitting in his backroom before Amazon or BH even offered pre-order. Cash is king

I called them the next day and spoke with a clerk about a remote shutter release, they did not have it is stock. He said they would have it on Wednesday. He then said he has the same one at home and I could borrow it until they come in, I only seen this guy 1 or 2 times.

This is customer service!!!!
