Which way do you turn?

Just out of curiousity, please vote on whether you rotate your camera body clockwise or anti clockwise when taking portrait orientation shots without the need for a flash.

If there's any particular direction you use for a reason then feel free to share your reasons, otherwise like I said, just a random thought on what way round people turn their camera.

I go anti clockwise purely because I'm right handed and I feel more comfortable with my trigger hand on top.

I believe you'll find most photographers will go anti clockwise (aka counter clockwise) possibly because grips are designed to be held in a counter clockwise position.

I turn my camera clockwise. OK, so I'm different. That doesn't make me a monster. I'm just different. :smiley_simmons:

Counterclockwise. I support the lens with my left hand and press the shutter button with my right. With a heavy camera and lens, I can't get a smooth press on the shutter if I try to support with my right hand. By the way, every time I see an SLR shooter with their camera rotated to the right, I immediately try to talk them out of it.

Same here.

Clock-wise for me. It just looks weird to see someone go counter-clockwise. Like trying to scratch your left ear with your right hand by going over the top of your head.

Counter-clockwise, my battery grip then has a shutter button then on the top right. Even without the battery grip I go counter-clockwise. Your right wrist bends naturally to the left and wraps around the camera more. Going clockwise does not feel right and your bending your wrist backwards and when you do that your hand tends to loosen or open up, more of chance of dropping your camera. Think about it.

Sorry Ted, make sure you got your neck strap on that camera the next time you go portrait. :p

One thing I can't get away from "OCD" (obsessive compulsive disorder) I have to rotate my camera counter-clockwise mainly because I have always just done it that way and the fact that I like my shutter button on top. My $.02

I'm left handed... not only did I struggle with getting my RIGHT eye into the viewfinder at first, it took a while to get counter to feel right. Counter clockwise just seems to make more sense with the button up top. It's all reflexive now I'm happy to say.
