I use one set of wireless remotes for every Nikon I own. It came with both types of cables in the box, and for $5 more I got a cable that works with my Sony a6000. It helps to know what you're talking about before saying things like this.
Fair point. I'm looking specifically for a cabled release to replace the cable release I used with the D7100. I'm comparing the cost of the MC-DC2 and it's list price of $35.50 vs the MC-36A priced at $230.00. The better comparison is probably the MC-30A for apples/apples and its only 2x the cost.
I could use my light triggers to remotely fire the shutter. I prefer the cabled release when working in bulb mode and trying different exposure lengths. It's just one of those things when changing camera bodies ... I knew I would need to buy a new grip and planned for it. I knew Nikon's wireless adapter for the D7x00 wouldn't work, and planned not to buy another because I don't use that function. I did not think that a cable shutter release would be different, and I got a bit of sticker shock when I saw the difference.
