Question for you, Pete. I remember you mentioned not liking to carry a heavy lens for long distances. Not sure if I asked, but did you ever consider a holster? I have a Think Tank belt that can have components (holster bags) added to customize the belt. Did you ever try one instead of lugging around a bag with your telephoto zoom?

I don't mind carrying it around long distances, I just don't like walking around with it through a lot of people.
I normally just carry a body with a lens attached, and a maybe one extra lens. If I'm out shooting birds I always have the 20 mm AF=D in my pocket (which I believe used to be yours before you sold it to @Bill16 and he sold it to me) just in case I come upon a nice landscape scene.
For people shooting, I now have the 80-200 mm which is perfect for that purpose, size and weight wise.

I did buy a nice sports strap, so Don Kuykendall can now stop making fun of me!:)

Tried to quote the last post but the space bar does not work on Reply with quote. Really odd

I guess I will just have to find a different reason to kid you. LOL Really looking forward to seeing the group in Lakeland Fl early next year. Wondering If I should rent a 150-600 for the wife for her d7100 of just let her use the 70-300?

Why don't you let your wife use the 150-600 mm and you rent a Nikon 200-500 mm .

Pete, is the white bird a heron? We get a few herons around here, but I've only ever seen one. And yes, you must have my 20mm lens. I really prefer my 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G lens...in fact, I like it a lot! Really enjoying shooting at 18mm while still having the option to zoom if needed.

I'm no bird aficionado like @wev or Kevin H or @Roy1961, but i believe it is an egret. Same bird I shot this afternoon enjoying a snack.\

Great White Egret in my books and apps, but have heard others calling it a White Heron?

After a hard day of shooting, we stopped at our favorite Pizza joint in the Chattanooga area. (Pretty much the only thing around here that resembles anything close to a pizza)
