First post for feedback - Boardwalk chipmunk

Found this little guy poking his head and body out of a boardwalk in Elk Creek, Colorado. Shot with Nikon D40 and 70-200mm lens. No post done.

Technically, the image is fine. You might want to experiment in post processing with cropping an image to strengthen the composition's focus... Here I took the liberty of cropping to a Golden Spiral...the spiral beginning in his left eye... Of course, I had to use your compressed Jpg file so the focus/image isn't very good, just trying to illustrate the cropping and composition.

I like the crop. It is different with less leading space to the right but shows more of the angle between boards.

Rule of thirds is your friend here. I would have cropped to the bottom left

Just to show how different we all are and show theres no real rule as such, heres my take. I crop so as to give more space into which direction the animal/bird/whatever is looking, if that makes sense?

When I was in TV we called it "Nose Room" I still use that term and guideline.
