And right after that, the day went all to hell. I was on one of the side trails, set up by the path railing, shooting the tit above. A trail bike maniac came sharp downhill around the corner, yelling "Look Out!" I turned, slid in the loose sand and gravel, and went sideways. I caught the rail before going to the ground, but so did the D500, hitting right above the view finder with a loud whack. I got upright and checked the camera. No auto focus, no fstop. I just finished the SquareDeal claim form and am waiting for the shipping label to print.

The rider did not stop, of course.

Just a few splinters and withdrawal pains

I talked to a ranger that I know there -- been a couple of fairly serious crashes on that downhill. The riders are allowed to use it, but are supposed to do so at a reduced speed and watch for folks on foot, who have the right of way. The staff don't like it, but have no choice.

where did it happen wev?

It is a trail above the volley ball and racquet ball courts that parallels the feeder creek and leads up to the fancy houses on the west ridge. I don't go there too often, as it is only popular with the small birds this time of year, so don't have the feeling for traffic I usually do.
