Mirror got stuck!

I took a shot with the D750 yesterday and the mirror got stuck in the up position a few times.

Had to push the shutter button to lower the mirror. This happened about 3-4 times in a row with different lenses. Now it's working fine.

The shots came out fine so I have no idea what is going on.

I took a shot like normal, the way I always do.

1. Achieved focus. (half press the shutter)

2. Full press the shutter. The mirror raises, the shutter does what it's supposed to do, takes the picture.

3. Viewfinder is dark after the shot is taken. (mirror does not drop down, stays up)

4. full press shutter and the mirror drops.

This happened with the Tokina 100 mm lens and with the Nikon 24-120 mm lens as well.

Now it's working fine. Took about 50 shots now and can't repeat the problem.

Interesting; my first though is not another shutter problem!

Are you going to let Nikon/Nikon USA know about it? My sincere hope is that this issue never repeats.

At first my mind automatically went to thinking shutter. The only thing that was out of norm, is that it was really hot outside. I had the camera on a tripod practicing taking shots for focus stacking in direct sunlight. When I was taking the camera off the tripod I noticed that the cam was really hot.

I packed away the tripod, and decided to take a few shots of the river (I was shooting by the river) when it started to give me problems.


After messing with the cam some more, (changing lenses to see if that was the problem) I put the cam away and drove home. 15 minute drive later I tried the camera again, and it was working fine. Picked it up this morning and no problems so far.

Could the intense heat have something to do with?

This has happened to me before but it has always been a one-off sort of thing; once I've gotten past it, the issue has never repeated itself on the same body. If it were me I'd do a few (or several) bursts on CH... Just because.

I assume you've worn a hat on that hot day. If so then you need to buy a hat for your camera too!:loyal:

Well, Nikon advertises an operating range of 32 - 104 F, and if it were in the high 90s , along with direct sunlight on the camera body, the internal temperature of the camera may have exceeded that. The earlier comment about shading the camera may very well be prudent advice.

Ambient outdoor temperatures in the 80's can yield internal temperatures of well over 100 degrees. Add to the fact that it's a black camera body, black lens, etc., and I wouldn't be surprised if there were problems. I've seen the same problems with laptops left out in the sun. The motherboards weren't cooked, but it did take a while for everything to get back within operating temperature limits.

yes, ive had erratic behavior with my d3/d3s when I shoot bg outdoor pics. the camera gets very hot to the touch. its all closed up inside. of course its going to affect it. it may be a tank on the outside, but that sucker gets hot as hell inside and it will cause stuff to go freaky. im certain it was heat related. things can expand because of the heat and precision movements are not anymore.
