Landscape Lense Advice

Travelling to Newfoundland to do some nature and iceberg/landscape photography. I am seeking advice on a landscape lense, my current setup/gear is:

Nikon D7200
Nikon AF-S 80-400MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR
Nikkor 50mm AF f/1.8D

Will be getting a D7100 as a backup body also. Any tips or advice on a landscape lense are appreciated. Settings for icebergs would be also helpful if anyone has done this before.

I love my Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 for landscapes on my D7200. I have been really pleased with it. I looked at the Tokina 11-16 and 11-20 hard, but I settled on the Sigma in the end. It may seem silly, but I liked the range of 10-20 over 11-20 or 16.

This will be tough to recommend because the widest lens you have now is a 50mm.

Anything like a 10-20 mm or a 11-16 mm will still leave you short in case you need something between those to focal lengths.
If it was me, I would pick up a Tokina 11-20 or a sigma 10-20, and add a 35mm prime.

Also. Since you're getting a second body, I would dedicate one of them (preferably the D7200} to the 80-400mm in case a whale or a polar bear shows up.

My plan is to have the 80-400 on a body at all times, I use the cotton carrier so I will be ready with that always :)
Will check the lenses suggested by Danno and youself. Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, honestly if you have a single lense you can convert that lense into a multiple of lenses if lighting and time provides you with such.

Take what you need and leave with more than you expected.

That's good information, Dan. Thanks for sharing it. I just got back from Utah's canyon country, thinking that I could use a wide angle lens at times. I'll look into this one on your recommendation.

If I were getting a backup camera for a landscape trip, I'd get an FX body; rented, purchased new or used, or borrowed from a friend. To go with that, I'd want a lens in the range of 20mm to 28 mm.

I do have one question, why are you taking a D7100 as your b/u?

look into renting a lens. Nikon has a sale on their dx 17-55mm lens $300 off. In u.s. You could rent the lens
for less than $150 for 2 weeks.

The controls are about as identical as you can get. Check out Tony Northrup's D7200 tutorial for verification. Main differences are the AF is better plus the larger buffer

Sure are, some differences that I don' really need such as a better and fast buffer in the D7200 but overall pretty much the same. The D7200 is rated a little better overall with a slightly fast focusing system but not a huge difference. The D7100 body would be a few hundred bucks cheaper for me to get.

I have a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM (Nikon mount) for sale. It's listed over on Panjo. It's in perfect condition. I see you're in the U.K. though and I'm state side so I imagine shipping costs would be prohibitive.

I also have the sigma 17-50mm, very pleased with it.
