Thanks for that write-up Woody. Very helpful.
One thing you don't mention is the U1/U2, or lack of on the D500, do you utilize this feature on your D7100 & D7200 ?
I know the D500 has some sort of memory banks, but from what I can figure out, it is Probably not as good as the User settings I use and like very much on my D7100.

I never used the User Settings of either the D7100 or 7200 myself. I'm finding manual mode with auto-ISO and judicious use of exposure control is the easiest/best set up for virtually everything I do. Obviously, this is an individual preference thing. If you are using the U1/U2 all the time, I imagine you might miss it. I've never messed with figuring out the memory banks, so I have no opinion there. Sorry. :)

Ever wondered what is this D500 is sharp, but FX is better at high ISO, but that does not matter if you do PP? This review shows you what it is about:

Just my 2 cents:
1) in really low light, the noise reduction will have more influence.
2) stop looking at 200% at pictures, who really needs that size?

24x36 posters are always fun. So I will have enough to wall paper my garage. So 1-1 viewing is handy to figure out which ones will handle the enlargement the best.

I call bullshit on this video. Clearly the D750 images had noise reduction applied even though he says there wasn't . The D750 is a great low noise high ISO camera, but at 200% and at ISO 5000 (the first comparison) there will be noise. On his shots it's smooth as silk.

Here's a video I doubt anyone is going to agree with, not in full at least.

I think it is pretty clear now that the D500 doesn't beat the D750 at high iso. Also since when have $2000 cameras been ideal for people just starting out? Unless you have money to burn that is ridiculous. Spending that amount of money can only be justified if you know you are serious about photography and that is something a lot of beginners don't know. Also most beginners will still be getting to grip with the basics and even a D3300 might be more camera than they need. Fro makes some good videos from time to time but mostly I just find him irritating.

Steve Perry seems to have pushed his review further. The point: the D810 makes better pictures (same distance), but in practice the D500 will deliver results you will miss with the d810?

P.S.: maybe the most important, the result is very close.

Okay, My ~3 month review... The D500 does everything I need Extremely well. I researched it and bought it for very specific reasons, all my own. I didn't watch one single video review on youtube until after I owned my copy. I whole heartedly believe that Every one of those are tainted by the reviewers preconceived ideas, no matter how good their intentions are.

Things I love: The focus system is light years beyond my trusty D90. The speed for sports/birds is mind boggling coming from a ~4 generation old camera. The IQ is beyond what my current skill level can surpass, so More than I can ask for. Auto focus fine tuning is simple.

Things I like: The touch screen is pretty handy but could be better. SnapBridge is handy for snapshot/family photo sharing but could be Much better. Back lighted buttons!

Things I wish were better: Less convoluted menus! (I know, a Nikon tradition!) Better use of the Fn 1 and Fn2 buttons. More pixels would have been great, but in my use, I don't really Need them. 2 XQD Slots!

That's it. Take it for what it's worth. Overall, I Love my D500 and have zero second thoughts or doubts about my decision to purchase it.

I was in the market for a new camera body last summer but, as the d500 was fairly new to the market with no long term track record I decided to trade my at the time back up body (d7000) for the d7200 (relegating my d7100 to back up).
Two weeks ago I bought the d500, (I traded my d7100 and relegated my d7200 to macro and back up status).
I am now the proud owner of two of the best crop sensor dslrs on the market at the moment and I am as happy as a dog with two dicks!

I read that the D500 can do an easy micro focus adjustment. I suppose this is only for Nikon lenses and doesn't work with Tamron or Sigma?
