WM's 2016 Shots

Well, I've finally gotten the camera out for something that I want to do. Although it didn't go as well as I wanted it to, it's a start.

My first shot is one of the blooms of my Mother's Christmas Cactus.

While out shooting the cactus, this bugged me for a bit.

After reviewing it, I realize I need to go over my autofocus settings and then run a focus calibration with this lens/camera combination.

Ok! I'm back home and no longer have just the 13" laptop to edit photos on. It's time to get serious!!

nice shot WM

Thank you Roy1961 and Marilynne. I'm going to play with it in photoshop to try to improve it. I'm thinking about how to remove the green part of the cactus, which I tried to do in the shoot, but just couldn't get done with the layout I had. I also was very careful to not break my mom's plant!

While photographing plants, I noticed this in one of the shots, so my attention shifted from flora to fauna.

Shoo Fly 2016 - 1-2.jpg

I really missed the eyes on the second shot, but the first looks as though I missed it all. It was cold and the fly wasn't moving much, but I must have breathed on it enough to warm it up and it flew off. I wanted to get even closer than I already was for subject enlargement, but the depth of field was already so shallow that I needed to use focus stacking for the image. That wasn't going to happen since the wind was blowing the leaves of the plants all over.

When dealing with macro/micro, the margin of error can be razor thin, and easily results in a miss! Hopefully, this will return later after a stint in Photoshop.

Ok, I've looked at the twirls that Jake has shared on his 2016 thread and given it a go. First, the original image, from back in 2014:

And then, the manipulated image, rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise:

Of course, they didn't inform me that they wanted food product shots, so I didn't have all of the equipment that I needed for this shot,
