Driving down a country gravel road, and noticed a Red-Tailed Hawk caught in a barb wire fence. I stopped to look at it, thinking (like an idiot) that I could help untangle it. Right. Before I could get out of my pickup, it frantically got loose, and fell in the field behind the fence. It appears as though it had injured it's right wing in the collision with the barb wire fence. It just sat there for a minute...while I snapped a few shots out the window. The hawk never tried to fly, just hopped into some bushes a little ways from the fence.

I did get a shot of it in the fence, as I never even got out of the truck. However, the image looks like an "almost" shot....

A few very long distance luecastic redtail photos. Not good, he's really spooky and this was with a 400mm f/5.6 and a tc16a and still cropped heavily.luec 1.jpgluec.jpg

Gyrfalcon a mile high taking with 400mm f/5.6 and tc16a (super cropped). I had the 400mm f/3.5 at home. I've been told this is a weird colored redtail and the wing and body appearance misled me to believe otherwise.
