Upgradable firmware for the FX Cameras

A while back there were rumors about Nikon offering upgradable firmware for certain FX cameras. I believe these were to be paid upgrades to gain features. I tried to find it online but all the links to Nikon about it were dead. Does anyone here know anything about this?
