Solved: No autofocus in any mode

No need to spin your thoughts, the problem was found! Yesterday this issue occured again. Today I went to the vendor, and we finally figured out what was the root cause - which can be important warning for everyone new to recent DSLRs like me. When I changed lens, I naturally thought you had to press the eject button when you place back the new lens too. WRONG.

(At least on the D7200) pressing the eject button while you insert the lens will cause the lens to screw in deeper then necessary. It won't "click", the AF pin will not connect. Worst thing is that the aperture will work, you'll be able to take pictures, the body recognizes the lens, but will think it has no AF capability and turn itself to manual only mode (without any notification or warning apparently). All DSLRs have a satisfying click when the lens is inserted. It's not enough to just feel a thud and you can't rotate anymore. Press the eject button only when removing the lens.
I just tried this on my D750 and indeed, if I press the lens release button while attaching lens I can very easily seat the lens fully but without the audible "click".

If the lens doesn't click Auto-focus is disabled. Once I turn the lens and get the click, Auto-focus is right back to normal.

Wow, I would have never thought of that! Thanks for coming back and telling us. It 'works' on the d7100 too, lol. It only moves a hair beyond the lock, but its enough to kill the autofocus.

Hello, I've followed this thread from the top. your issues matches mine 100%. i'm using a Nikon D7200. Today at an event, I was switching from the kit lens 18-55mm to 70-300mm. It suddenly stopped auto focusing. How did you finally resolve this issue. Kindly help.

Did you see Horoscope Fish's response? Have you tried to remove the lens and put it back on the body without pressing the release button?

Folks! am so glad that i've manage to sort out the problem. After so much trials of different fixes, i've come across a tutorial on youtube of fixing the issue mechanically. Now, its a risky process that if not undertaken cautiously could damage your camera, but if you proceed with caution you'll have nothing to worry about. I did a lot of changing lenses yesterday at an event i was, and the hurry could have made me press the release lens button while mounting my lens which resulted to passing the lock an inch, as sited in the above contributions from different users. That made the lock stuck. so here's a tutorial to remove the silver ring on the body of the camera after unmounting the lens, and several presses on the lock with a screwdriver fixed my autofocus problem.

Thanks for posting your solution. So the lens never clicked into place?
