High ISO on D300

Took some photo using ISO 3,200 setting for an indoor performance recently. Actually not that bad for D300. What do you think?

Except for the yellowish colour cast...yeah, not to bad at all!

This is a stage performance. The stage lighting were red, yellow and blue. These shots were taken when they were using yellow light.

I had my D300 at an indoor event yesterday. Here's a shot at 4000. I think it all depends on the subject, but certainly, you can get decent enough shots with the D300 at higher ISOs

Interesting results. I have never gone above 1600. Maybe I need to try a little higher. I know at 1600 I get great results. Where you shooting in raw or jpeg? What did you use for editing?

I don't go over 800 if I can help it. gets too grainy.

This is where D300 lose out to FX and newer DX camera. There will be situation you need that high iso

Yes. Especially when you are shooting birds and need a high SS. I run into it all the time. That is why a D7200 is on my wish list. I take my D300 up to 1600 and normaly have no problems with them. One of the software I have has a very good noise reduction to it. I know with lightroom I can't get rid of the noise as easily.

How high can you go with these newer cameras and not have issues with noise, like the 7200?

I have not taken any photo using either camera but reaviews are good for both D7002 and D600. Like all products, manufacturers don't make things cheaper and better to kill their higher end product line.

However, I want to believe it will come to a point where we need to know those 'extras' are necessary. My D300 is holding well and I see prices dropping every other months. I think I will hold and unless technology improves, fx is the only way to go.
