Need backup for d600

I had a D7100 and a D800. I'd lent Kevin my D800 for a short period, while he had his D600 at Nikon for the recall, and he got it back to me in the same pristine condition as he'd gotten it.

As was carrying it back into my house, I dropped it on a tile floor. A chunk of the case broke off. After a sick night, I sent the D800 to Nikon, only to get a notification that it was "Damaged beyond repair". So, I bought a D810.

I'd read something about Nikon just preferring that you buy a new camera. So I took the D800 to ShutterWorks in Ft. Worth and they were able to repair it, and completely check it out and declare it good as new. I've taken quite a few photos to check it out and found no issues with it at all.

I don't need two 36 megapixel cameras...I can't afford the storage for the files :). I plan to take the money I get for he D7100, which I've sold, and the D800 to buy a D750. I want to stay full frame to keep the lenses compatible. I've loved my Nikons and can't see a reason to ever give them up...except for newer versions. I'm selling the D800 for $1,600. I have a 24-85mm lens as well for $270.

Sounds like I need to start hanging around Steve and Kevin so I can get good deals on dropped bodies. :)

That's so sad it's almost criminal, in my book. I mean, the D800 is a $3K camera and they couln't (wouldn't) repair it? I'm glad you got your camera fixed in the end but stories like this make me mad enough to never buy another Nikon new.

I'm sure Nikon would have said the same thing for mine, but I have an extended warranty so its going to another place to be fixed. Although, I haven't heard from them yet so taking no news as good news.

You should have seen me holding and taking care of that camera like it was a new born baby, no way was I going to drop that sucker. Then he lets me know after he gets home that he dropped it. Then I go and drop mine, although a little different than his but none the less it was dropped and needed repair.

I agree on the repairs as long as the cost of repair doesn't surpass the value. They could have very easily offered some other incentive to get him into a new body or refurb.

I did see D600 on eBay selling for parts, just not sure of the market for selling bodies like that. I mean how many actually do their own repairs on cameras.

Well, the 7100 is in the house and ready to go. Although, wishing I would have ordered a grip for it but will move forward and see how it goes. Its only an issue when the 70-200 is mounted to it.

If only the D600/610 and D7100 shared the same grip, then I would be really happy. :)

No kidding, very annoying but I'll give it a go this weekend without. So far pretty impressed with the 7100 over the 7000. I really like the new viewfinder white LED's, pop right out at you.

Must have missed that,you got a D7100 then,congratulations

Yea Mike, the 600 took a fall and had be put in the shop. They told me 30-45 days to fix, well I have commitments and my wife said I need to do something. So ordered one of the refurb 7100 from Adorama and just got it yesterday. So it will be my primary till the 600 comes back.
