Any idea what it really is? The general shape, and certain details seem to be consistent with some fairly recent Nikon, but it has a cheap plasticy look to it, that I cannot imagine any genuine Nikon product having. Even where Nikon does deign to use cheap plastic, I don't think they'd ever allow it to look so much like it.
Pretty sure that's a Nikon D50 Silver Edition.

I hesitate to say that since I'm still on my first cup of coffee but if not, those two were separated at birth.

That looks plausible. I'm assuming that the picture in your post is of a genuine Nikon D50. I'm still a bit taken aback by, what seems to me like a very un-Nikonish “cheap plastic” look to it, but it does look like a plausible match for the camera in the OP.
