The Best of the D700 images

The thing is i may buy new,if i do the D610 gives best value for my needs,if i go secondhand that opens up all sorts

The 610 may be all you may need, and the layout and feel will be very familiar to your current camera. So your transition would be instantaneous.
Technology only yields small advantages between the two. Maybe a more efficient sensor, ability to print larger images, better ISO for dark situations. However me myself do not find new technology to have that greater advantage over tech from just a few years past.
The same way a Countach would still be a welcomed addition in any garage even after 20+ years, and greeted the same way an Aventor would.

The D700 will be a classic like the Countach :D Its a legend.

The D600 is like the Ford Pinto. Nikon would rather quickly forget about it and everyone else forget about it too.
I have been thinking about adding a D700 even though still perfectly happy with my current two cameras it would be a good camera to own for $700. I have some cash in paypal account from selling some lenses still waiting for the right D700 to show up. I need to find oen in Canada though..ebay global shipping program is a ripoff

So what does a good used D700 sell for?

The reason I ask is my new shooting buddy used one last night and he is considering buying it for NZ$800.00 but it has a very high shutter count. The seller is a pro friend of his and guarantees the sensor for 12 months despite the high count of 280,000!!!

Hey buddy, for about $900-$1000 should get you a D700 with low actuations! Mine cost just under $1000 with 24,000 actuations! You can find one here for instance with less than 20,000 for about $1000 at Hunts ! :)

Well I am certainly not in the market and still reeling from the D7100 but was interested to know.
I should mention his camera comes with a grip and a 70-200mm lens. So probably not a bad deal (especially if the sensor does go in the next 12 months and is replaced)

I wouldn't go for a camera with super high actuation count! The shutter has only a limited life span and even well cared for the camera has wear and tear on all moving parts my friend!

Steve, How were you able to use the Takumar lens on your Nikon? I never could find a good adapter that would allow Infinity focus. I'd love to be able to use my old Takumars on my D700 ...

To get infinity focus there has to be a lens in the adapter. I use the Kood M42 to Nikon adapter but Kood doesn't list it on their website now. Hama makes an M42 to Nikon adapter as well. Here is a an adapter comparison on Flickr. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply, Steve. I appreciate the information. - Bill
