Re: Scott's Australian Walkabout

Ok just testing out a new flash system, what is your thoughts @Ironwood and anyone else?

Tamron 90mm + Raynox DCR-250
Looks promising Scott, have you used your usual type of diffuser ?
The first shot shows good detail in the eye with only the small reflection.

Are you using your 1.4tc for these shots ?

I would be interested to see a comparison shot using the good old onboard flash and your original diffuser.

Ok here are two similar ones using different flashes and diffusers. Was hard to get it exactly right.

I am looking on my iPad atm, will check on the bigger screen later, but I like the softer look of your original diffuser. The bigger setup seems to give a harsher look.
This is the same when I have experimented with my Yongnou flash .

You can see your camera setup reflected in the frogs eye in both shots.

I like the shot from the bigger setup myself. In this case at least the colour of the frog looks more lifelike with a little more light on it. What did you think Scott?

Thoughts on this?

I think it improves the look of the shot a good deal, though I do like a small amount of reflection, just gives it a bit of life.
Did it take long to do that ?

Just going back to the comparison in post #142, I am now looking on my 27" mac, I like the first pic even more now, I prefer the way the skin looks with the softer light, it shows the texture much better.

Actually quite fast to do and I do not need to remove everything, was just trialling some editing.

Re: Scott's Australian Walkabout

The other shot has more of the frog in focus than this one, so perhaps that has a little bit of influence why I like the first more, but even taking that into account, I still vote for the first one.
Definitely more even light with my DIY diffuser.

I played with one of my jumping spider shots, I took the reflection of the diffuser right out of both eyes, made them look like 2 black holes.

Just looking at yours again, I think it might look better if you only take the reflection out of the black part, and leave it on the coloured part of the eye, might retain a bit more "life" if you know what I mean.

Here is another version.

Looks far better with the reflection of the camera gone and I like it with a little reflection left as Ironwood said :D

Re: Scott's Australian Walkabout

Well it was an eventful day.

The dogs decided to have a brawl again. I am thinking I will have to get rid of my bigger dog...

This is a decent puncture wound to my smaller dogs shoulder. I have doused it in Chlorhexidine but will need to keep a close eye on it thats for sure.
