I must say that today using d9 to focus, I have very few bird butts among them.

Ha! Try shooting BIF with an 18-140mm.
I could have took some gorgeous shots today, if I didn't have to crop the heck out of them. I'm thinking of getting me either the Tokina 80-400mm or the 70-300mm VR Nikon.

Either would probably do you ... for a while. Watch for a Sigma 120-400 or 150-500. That or find someone letting go of their 500mm real cheap!! 😉😎

Funny. If you look we shoot the same camera, same 18-140, same 11-16 but I sold my 18-55 along with my d5100 since I never used it again after I got the 18-140. I love my 70-300 along with BBF it is great for BIF

I was just looking at that Don. I thought about the Tamzooka, but I'm mostly a wide angle shooter. Sometime however it woould be nice when I see a bird or something in the distance to have a longer lens.
Just picked one up at B&H for $379.00 and free expedited shipping.

My AF did a splendid job there keeping focus with all those distractions around and even in front of the duck. Too bad it was too low light and the shot is a bit noisy.

These are the equivalent of some 10k ISO. I adjusted exposure in post by almost 7 stops.
