Night Time Cityscapes

I'm practicing for taking cityscapes at night. I'm interested in seeing other's work to check out settings such as F-stop and time. From various photos I've seen, the settings have quite a range.

I thought a long exposure at F16 would work, but obviously it didn't.

So, I switched over to F4 and the photos are brighter but I'm concerned about the lack in depth of field.

So, I'm hoping folks will post night-time cityscapes and I can learn from your experiences.

OK. Went back and shot at F8 to split the difference. I'm using a tripod, mirror up, and remote. The cityscapes I'll be looking to shoot will be much further in distance. These are just practice.

This is a 7 frame .7 HDR. This photo was taken after 10pm and the area is as dark as it was in the previous photos, yet the HDR has turned night in to day.

I chose 3 of the seven frames to blend. Since I wanted to tone the photo down and make it less bright, I chose the base photo, the darkest photo and one in between those two.

I'm hoping others will chime in with their tricks or tips for night cityscapes.

Each shot gets better Ted....but I don't plan on shooting any city scapes at night...not that I'm not interested, but there is nothing around here that exciting at night....Raleigh and Durham don't have much to look at, at night. I guess I could learn for when we go on vacation, so I'll be watching and learning on your thread here. I think Scott Murray might be able to help you. He takes amazing night time pictures.

Here's one that I shot last summer in Perkins Cove, Maine

ISO 100
1 sec
f3.5
Bumped up the exposure comp just a bit.

I used my 35mm 1.8 prime
