Is anyone shooting full frame with this lens? Is anyone having any issues with dust entering the lens?

There was one guy doing a lot of moaning on the forums about his Canon mount lens having dust in it after using it twice,he also moaned about focus issues he had read about but not experienced but he returned his lens for checking, I followed his journey with interest.
My conclusion was, as he was the only one moaning and the nature of his posts he was a Canon man who had i think a Canon 600mm,this had set him him above the majority of photographers and he wasn't happy at how close a sub £1000 lens could bring the rest of us to him.
Its called brand snobbery but if it really does concern you go for the sport version of the Sigma it will be weather sealed but it does cost a fair chunk more.

Yes I use it on a D4S.
No I have not experienced dust, though almost every lens will get dust in at some stage and it is unlikely to have any effect on the image.

After Christmas i should be able to get at a feeding station for the odd day,did i read in one of your posts you leave the VC on for tripod work.

I do Mike, I never used to and followed the oft-used mantra of never having VC/VR/IS on when on a tripod, but my tripod setup is never 'fixed' as I am always panning and tilting and I guess this matters - I've tried both on and off and for me the conclusion is leave it on :)

Thanks for the feedback. My own feeling was that you would have to be in a particularly dusty environment to get any noticeable amount of dust inside the lens. Like standing in the ditch along a gravel road, or in the sand dunes in Idaho. Or you take your lens off and just leave it in the back seat of your car. I just can't see it sucking up dust unless it is covered in it.

Okay, kids, now that I have joined this illustrious and exclusive club, I have a question. Are you using the lens primarily on a tripod, monopod, or shooting hand held? If the last, what sort of strap do you have? I have a old simple Tamrac neck strap and it ain't real comfortable with the added weight. I wanted to get the Tamrac banana, but the company seems to have gone under.

I just use the Nikon strap that came with the body. I know I'm in the vast minority, here, but it works just fine for me. I am carrying the camera by holding the lens or tripod collar the whole time I'm walking around, though. That's just what seems to work for me.

Isn't shooting in DX mode on full frame just in camera cropping?

Pretty much, but it allows me to focus on the eyes easier because I can see them better and it also allows my camera to concentrate on a smaller area and sometimes get a better light meter reading. I try and shoot in full FX mode most of the time but sometimes it works better in DX. The reason I mention that it was shot in DX mode is to let you see what the results would be if you needed to shoot using DX mode.

I use the Black Rapid shoulder strap,i feel there is too much weight in the lens to let it hang from the camera,if i use the camera strap but hold the lens i find it causes me arm problems after a couple of hours,90% hand held.

Same as Mike, Black Rapid strap fastened to the tripod foot of the lens works well although it is possible to catch the the switches on the lens and switch to manual focus inadvertently when walking. Always hand held so far.

If you go black rapid give some thought as to which one you buy, they are handed i am right handed but wanted the camera on my left side so bought the left hand strap.

When not on a tripod I use a Q-Strap (Black Rapid 'clone') shoulder strap, fixed to the tripod foot of the lens and I find that very suitable - my particular strap has a type of rubber 'octopus-leg sucker' design on the shoulder part which makes it very comfortable and secure.

I shoot handheld and use a Black Rapid shoulder strap.

I am also right and like the camera to the left -- you have the RS-L Sports Extreme then? That seems to be the only version B&H carries.
