Firmware Update issue

One last thing.... reboot the computer into safe mode... rename the BIN file extension to .doc and then try to copy the renamed file to the SD card... once it's been copied, rename the file extension back to .BIN

Ok Don. The file still won't copy across. The laptop is giving the same response as the desktop. SD card is Write Protected Unlock card or get another one.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Have you tried a different card reader?

Try right clicking on the .bin file, select properties and see if it is set to read-only.

Its not clear from this thread whether you have tried a different card reader, does the laptop have its own or did you plug in the same one?

I just tried it on my card. I downloaded it, went to the download map and manually extracted it, copied the bin to the card. It's not the bin file that's the problem.

Are you using an external SD card reader ? If so could that be the problem ? If you used it on both the Desktop and Laptop it might somehow be corrupted.. 1. You have tried different computers 2. J-See says the Bin file is not corrupted, so that leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the SD card Reader/Writer.
Just a Thought..

I just said the same thing two posts above. Yet to get an answer though its possibly the last common thing that has not been replaced or an alternative tried.
The bin file is a red herring as J-see says. If two computers and two SD cards all give the same issue then its either the card reader or the actual camera itself formatting the card incorrectly.

He can use the direct upload to the cam and the card reader on both the laptop/computer. If all have the same problem, it can't be much else but the cam.

I'll have to agree, there may be a problem with this "card reader". This as of right now may be the culprit. Look for any firmware updates to the reader(s) itself before attempting to continue. If the problem persists and cannot be resolved after any firmware updates to said item, look to replace the item first and retry.

Otherwise if you have the camera software unzipped, connect your camera directly to your computer via USB and transfer the file directly into the card through USB connection. Then proceed with camera firmware update via directions.

excuse me for not looking at all the previous posts...but if you are lookingto update firmaware, make sure you place the update file in the right place. Not in any files, but I believe in the root directory.

I tried that with his file and can copy it in both without a problem. It makes no difference to that. To install the firmware it makes all the difference as I experienced the first time I updated the D3300.

Btw, try to put some tape over the write protect part on the card itself and check what that does. It might seem silly but give it a try.

I just did the latest firmware update..was a bit concerned and kept putting it off, then watched a Jared Polin (froknowsphoto) video and he made it look and sound so easy so I had a go, an do you what it was easy!
