I was looking at the 24mm 1.4 but many people can vouch for the disrupting coma making it less usable for astrophotography wide open, a shame really, for that price point the 14-24mm seems more viable... 14-24mm is one of the gods of astro : ) Unfortunately it also shoots past 2k in price range. For that much money, I'd sell and replace the old 80-200 to the 70-200 VR II, which I plan on doing ... eventually.I don't know if you have to use filters or not for astro but if not, the 14-24mm is one of the better. One of the more expensive too. As a prime, the 24mm 1.4 is equal at CA. Shorter you'd have to go zooms to have better CA but then you trade in sharpness depending what f/ used.
I checked those values based upon the D610 sensor. There's nothing for the D750 yet and if you use another cam than that, it might differ.
Wow, I had never even heard of this lens until now. It looks to do just about everything that you would want from an astro lens. What about the Nikon AF-S 20mm f/1.8 ?
It is a good sharp lens with 77mm filter size.

Have you ever played wit the 16-35, 18-35, or 14-24 to see which you prefer : )?I have this lens, and use it for landscape and gives me a good feeling

The 16-35 focal range seems to be "enough" for me. Anything wider and I will look for a lens that gives that subtle fisheye lens distortion hehe. I'll admit, I try to make sure that the system looks as good as the pictures that come out of it. When I see hideous lenses or combinations I'm a bit turned off!I have the 18-35mm and am satisfied with its performance although it doesn't do equally well at every length but for its price it's good. It has some distortion at 18mm as to be expected of a wide. With a pod and careful positioning it isn't a problem but when not paying attention to that, it can produce horrors.
Even while I more and more use the 24-35mm part for landscape shots, there are times I like them to be wide and 18 simply doesn't cut it there. I have a 14mm Samyang for that but it has to stop raining before I know how it performs. I can tell you it's a lens that ugly only its mommy can love it.
Speculations! Let's find out what the next few months will bring out. Sometimes rumors don't live up to the hype! You might want to wait till february. I have a feeling sigma will release a 24mm art in CP+ also rumored is Tamron releasing 2 primes as well. maybe a WA. there is the amazingly stellar 15-30 2.8 VC lens being sold within a month thatll sell for $1100. from the MTF, it will surpass the legendary 14-24AFS. getting mine in april. this will sell like crazy. not like the tokina 16-28 2.8 which is god and compared nicely to the nikon. this tamron will surpass the nikon. im almost certain

I haven't needed wider from my 16-35 yet for landscapes and close indoors, anything more than 15 and I think that fisheye distortion starts to look artistic : )!

It's part of my decision making process. Yes. I take into account if it has the requirements I'm looking for first. Then I make the rest work for me. Car, motorcycle, and bicycles, snowboard, skii's, girlfriend, etc. (Don't tell the girlfriend I said that.)thats what im saying. wait till february, I think there will be something interesting from tamron and sigma. no one knows what. the tamron 15-30 VC is not a speculation though. thats going to be brilliant.
or you can go with the rokinon bower samyang offereings also. theyre very nice.
btw, how a lens looks physically affects your decision to buy it?

And yeah, I can wait until February : ) Rokinon was in consideration from the get-go, because it seems like a bargain but I had heard that you need a good copy of the lens which can be hit or miss.
