I would suggest getting the D3300 with its kit lense. That is one amazing lense. The combo is one of the lightest body+lense combinations you can get - excellent for travel.

As others have commented, for wildlife a long lense is required. Desist from getting xx-300 zooms, they are pretty bad at 300mm. Either get the 300mm F4 prime or the xxx-500/600 zooms. They are much better in the 300-400mm range.

I would not recommend getting the D7000 as it is quite old and the current bodies have much better high ISO capabilities (required for wild life, as you may be shooting in average light at high shutter speeds).

I'm considering a lot of options including the 3300 and the 5300.
I closed last night with the 7000 body and a separate lens but haven't looked at the quality of the lens yet in comparison to others more pricy.

Always tend to look at the numbers and the best value for my money. Often worry more about purchases than I need to.

That's why proper English is so dang hard for people to learn.

"dang" or 'durn"??

Little things that drive me nuts!!......there is no "e" at the end of lens!

lens = 1
lenses = more than 1.

This is why they call me Captain Grammar! :)
Ok, here's a ?.
Though I ain't no English scholar I never can keep straight the use of "and" or "an". Seem to remember "an" precedes words beginning with a vowel?

What makes English so dang/durn difficult is the fact that a lot of the rules of English have exceptions. For the most part, though, you're correct that "an" precedes a word beginning with a vowel. Usually! lol

H'mn not happy with the way this thread is going. Have you considered that the original "spelling offender" might not speak English as a first language ?

how is your French / German / Swedish / Thai. Before you criticize please pause.

Might be a simple typo.

Howdy Richard and welcome to Nikonites!

As a fellow motorcyclist, I think you'll be fine with either the D3x00 or D7000 on the bike as long as it is stored properly. I travel more with a P&S on the bike, but no problems when picked in a tank bag or top box.

Yup, exactly...but I didn't want to push it! ;)

I don't want to sound like the "grammar police" but it kills me when people say "it's just the internet.....blah, blah, blah". So, am I to believe that when they are NOT on the internet they are speaking grammatically perfect English? Oh I think not! Ignorant is as ignorant does, with my apologies to Forrest Gump.

Well it is kind of confusing. The English we learnt 50 years ago in school is no longer VALID. Neighbour has become neibor. Honour honor, and it goes on an on. You cannot type honest spellings without the spell checker intruding. The first few weeks with a new software/site I have to teach the spell checker English. Still errors creap in, as now you have a myriad versions of the spellings!!!

here is another stickler for correct spellings

OK, had my bit of fun. Now to work.

I certainly didn't mean to be critical. I know English is daggone hard to learn. One of the toughest languages to learn IMHO. By the weigh (lol), everyone is doing fine!

No problem.
The English language would be so much easier to learn if it was spelled the way it sounded, with a southern accent.
