Looking for a new option on this,i have had McAfee for about 5 years and no problems as such,i do find that at times my computer slows down on the web, like this morning i can hardly load a thread with pictures in on this and other forums.I decided it was time to look at the protection side of things for the reason so need a good alternative preferably to buy on disc and at least two a pc license.
I cant cope with one of these look for this directory or do you want something doing somewhere :D i want to slip the disc in and click load no matter how simple choices are i can opt for the wrong one every time, as i have little or no understanding of how this magic box works nor do i want to learn.
I have while the end of the month so any suggestions please,i dont visit porn type sites but will follow links from forums ect if it feels ok.

I also use avast. I use that trial one that lasts for 30 days, then i have to uninstall it, then re install for another 30 days cover, and do that month after month. Sounds like a bit of a ball ache, but it doesn't take long, and i really like the program

If you can manage to turn on your PC and post photos on a forum you should be able run these applications without difficulty. I suggest them because your issues are probably not virus related. More likely they're Windows related. These are applications I know from years of experience are safe and effective. I suggest you use them on a monthly basis at least:

Direct download links ahead...

Super AntiSpyware Free -- Get it, update it, run it. Antivirus applications do not eliminate malicious software (malware) and these nasties can be picked up anywhere on the Internet. Everything from tracking cookies to ad-ware. Blech! Nasty!!

CCleaner -- CCleaner removes junk files from your system that are choking your Windows install and frees up valuable hard drive space in the process: Bonus! CCleaner has to be one of the most beloved computer applications the world has ever seen.

Wise Registry Cleaner -- Registry cleaners purge your Windows Registry much like CCleaner does for the rest of your Windows install. Some people think they're more placebo than anything, but I find cleaning the registry can often times eliminate a lot of wonky behavior. It certainly won't hurt anything!

Run these applications, reboot your PC and see if you don't get a little better, a little smoother performance.

Thanks all good advice which i took from a previous post of yours, the thing is the slowness isnt consistent, like now its running very quickly the main problem is in the mornings when i first switch on for 2 or 3 hours, this is the time McAfee is most active installing updates and i think scanning, the fact that its not consistent leads me to look in other areas,at first i thought poor connection speed but this shouldn't be the case at 5 am.

Thanks but i wont go near Barclays, they failed to start paying a standing order and then wouldn't admit there mistake,it made me look like a bad credit risk.
It was in 1972 but they only get one chance with me :D.

Actually ime trying something else now, although things are running fast at the moment (ime on firefox) just tried Chrome and its even faster so going with that for a few days before i change anything.

If you are an online Barclays Bank customer you can download the latest Kaspersky package for free. The licence includes coverage for 3 computers.

I have used Kaspersky for the last 5-6 years. Currently using their Pure 3.0. It behaves quite nicely compared to my previous experiences with Nortons and McAfee. You can buy it on disk.

I let it download its updates auto, but do scans manually. You can also set it to remind but not download updates. It does have a lot of features, but setting menus seem fairly straightforward.

I know several people who use Avast and seem to be happy with it.

I have been using AVG Free for years and have never had a problem. When you install just make sure you click on the FREE version. The paid version adds a few other programs but I have never needed them
