I wondered if it was the "lenstag" thread based on all the "Dislikes". Either way, it would be nice to have discussed whatever the problem was... As it is it just resembles a small child shouting that they are leaving home and slamming the door, just because they weren't allowed more cake.

I read that thread and found it somewhat weird that he was disagreeing with such comments. Personally, i feel the "disagree" button is silly and infantile. Seriously, if you don't agree with someone, just say so in a polite manner. No need for a silly button. What have we come to :disturbed:

Stick around, you will see them come and go and some just disappear. Nature of internet forums.

I didnt see anything that would have gotten anyones drawers in a bind, but oh well.

I tried disagreeing and liking this but it wouldn't let me ;)

Everyone has issues with forums. Either they don't like certain members or they dislike how the board is run. I myself used to be much more "into" this board but the heavy-handed moderation made me pull back nearly entirely.

Can you explain more with an example - I think the mods here seem to have a light touch, and only get involved if a spammer is suspected.

This almost makes me want to go through your 54 posts to see where all this "heavy handed" moderation was taking place.:hopelessness:

if you see moderating you think is heavy handed you should take it up with the moderators and owner of the board at the time you see it, via PM.

Someone is paying the bills here, he runs it as he likes and has helpers he expects to uphold his point of view on things, everyone is free to play somewhere else, no one is locked in here....

I want to play "devils advocate" here...
Not all people who join forums are forum savvy, there are teens who think they know everything and will share their knowledge (right or wrong) and there are older folks who have never been on a forum before. They dont all know how to ask the right questions to get the right answer. Some have bought a new camera (or have had one bought for them) and want to know something simple. YES, generally this forum is great (specially compared to some that shall remain nameless) but there must've been something that upset this member enough to make him feel uncomfortable enough to leave. I dont think he threw a hissy fit, maybe he was being polite in letting people he considered internet friends know he was going, I dont know.
I hope I dont get blasted for this. (not a confident person myself)

Hard to imagine what someone else is/was thinking. Sometimes it's hard to imagine what I'm thinking and I live in here (most of the time).:)

Not possible. I refer to the arbitrary removal of posts and closing of threads, especially when moderators themselves are called out or criticized. In the end, it really doesn't matter what I think or do or contribute. Moderators will do what they see fit, and I'll do likewise.

In the end, it's just an internet forum. Some folks take this "place" far to seriously. There is a big, wide world out there that is far more important. In the end, it's water off a duck's back. Life goes on.

Now I'm starting to miss the self protection thread. ;)

You need thick skin to live on the internet.

Yes life goes on, and there are more important things to worry over I agree, but as someone who almost walked away from a forum because I didnt like the way I felt I had been treated, I empathise with others that feel they need to leave a place. All I was getting at was that some newer members might not get the "in jokes" or personalities of long term members. I moderate at the forum I almost walked from, and there have been a number of members get their knickers in a twist about something that they misunderstood, its very easily done on an international forum, some have come back under a different name, a few have not... but each time a new member joins a large friendly forum like this the existing members ought to allow for a settling in period - the vast majority here are really good at that, but if someone comes in with a question that is a regularly asked question, its easy to link to a prior post, or answer the question... or point them in the right direction. Although, I'm not saying this was the case in this members decision for leaving

I guess I am just trying to say something like "give each other space, and respect others opinions" or something like that :)

I am also leaving.
Living in New Zealand I am supposed to get the news before everyone else and in this case didn't so what is the point of hanging around?
I did get a PM from Nick (aka Gorf) in which he says he is leaving. No hint at why though unless it was in the title which was "Lens Cleaning Kit"
Today's new is - it is sunny, a beautiful day and one that I shall be taking advantage of somehow (after coffee).

It's too late to apologise - I am leaving!
I hate to see you go. Just promise that when you come back, pick the username Mr. Mojo Rising.
This way I'll know it's you. I promise I won't tell anyone. Every one will think you're Jim Morrison, but I'll know it's you.
