Hello!
If I was to purchase a floor model camera, but not box or registration card would I still be able to register it with Nikon for repairs and what not??

I'm only considering this option because the I would be saving $600 from a new one.... it is a US version, less than 150 clicks, practically new just no box. Does come with all the accessories...

From the Nikon website:

Nikon Website said:
Question: How do I register my Nikon products and warranty?

Nikon products come with varying levels of registration and warranty cards.

Digital SLR Camera Bodies and Coolpix Cameras
No registration or "warranty" card is included or needed with a Nikon D-SLR or Coolpix camera. Keep your original, dated proof of purchase from the Authorized Nikon Inc. dealer in case warranty service is ever needed. These products do include either a mail-in form or a paper with a web link to our registration page:

Register your Nikon Product

It's advised to register your product with Nikon so that we can send you information about future updates or service issues that may arise.

Thank you! What if they are not a Authorized dealer? That does put me out of the warranty, right? If it does, will it still be serviced, even if I have to pay?

The only reason I can think of Nikon would refuse to service your camera would be that it was bought on what's called the "grey market". See this explanation from Nikon that explains what grey market items are and why they won't service them.

We can't tell you if your camera is grey market or not but if you tell us where/who you bought it from, we could make educated guesses. The more legitimate the retail source, the better your chances are it's not a grey market item.

I would be concerned as if it is only a demo/floor model, what happened to the box and serialized registration paper? No dealer I know of throws that stuff away for their display/demo equipment. IF they are indeed an Authorized Nikon USA Dealer (you can check here ), I would inquire as to what happened to the box/paperwork. Part of the Nikon USA Dealer Agreement prohibts selling most demo/display cameras at more than 10% below new price. You did not say what model this is, but unless it is a D4s, $600 off is way more than 10% off. As the Nikon USA warranty only extends to the original purchaser from an authorized dealer, I would worry that the camera had been previously sold and then returned without the box/paperwork. If this is the case, and the original owner registered it with Nikon, there would not be a Nikon warranty to subsequent buyers.

I'm purchasing from an eBay seller. I specifically asked if was a grey market and they assured me it was a US version - The item is located in NY, Seller has 650+ feedback. I'm asking a few other questions before I pull the trigger on this.

If they are not an Authorized Nikon USA Dealer, then you do not have a Nikon USA warranty with the camera. If it is a "grey market" camera, Nikon USA will not service it at all, even if you agree to pay for it.

And THERE'S the magic word! "Floor model" my ass.

What model Nikon are they selling and what is the selling price?

It is a d810, he said he bought it for himself then decided to go with Canon and he purchased it without the box so he doesn't know what happened to the box... he couldn't take back as they did not accept returns.
So I asked this:

"Can you send me a picture of the serial number on the camera body?
Did you buy it online, like here on ebay?
How are you sure this is a USA version if you have no paperwork on it? What research did you do figure that out?
Do you know if it was in fact a "demo" at a store?"

Let me see if I get this guys story straight... He's telling you he bought a $3200 Nikon, with no box or paperwork on a "No Returns" policy then suddenly decides to go Canon and now is selling this camera like it's hot? Is that the gist of it?

That sound you hear is my laughter.

One word: Go shopping on Amazon, B&H or Adorama for your D810.

LMAO!!!! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Must be awesome to spend THAT much money on a camera, then render it expendable because he wants a Canon now. Plus, he got the camera and chucked the other contents. Either this dude is a rich rich man in which dollars have Uncle Pennybags on it, or this is a really "nice" scam.
