Hi Fen. Now funnily enough I haven't been in the Swann Inn yet for a pie'n a pint since it has changed hands and you have just reminded me to give OH a nudge, Ha! Little Haven is where we always used to holiday with the dogs down here. Coincidentally, Pembrokeshire has just been voted second best coastal destination in the world (according to National Geographic). You can read it here: Holidays In Wales: Pembrokeshire has been voted the second best coastal destination in the world!

We probably miss quite a lot in the summer months as obviously it gets quite busy in the school holidays, so we let the holiday makers have the beaches then. I was lucky enough to see an otter running down the beach at Broad Haven and into the sea earlier this year. Yeah, typical, the one time I didn't bother to take my camera!!! but it all happened too quickly in any case. Shame though. Little Haven is probably our nearest beach, unless we go across the water to Freshwater East. I'm in Hook which is one of the villages nestled around the shore of the cleddau river/estuary. I'll put some photos in the gallery, but I'm only just getting out of Auto, so they may be a bit amateurish!!! Are your friends local to Pembrokeshire? or like us, hale from elsewhere?

Hi there Sandi,
I`m like yourself and have just joined this community recently. They seem quite a nice bunch on here. I must say I liked your dog shots. Your coastal scenery is very akin to ours here in Northern Ireland. I have only ever been to Wales on one occasion many, many years ago to a place called Tenby. l think that is in Pembrokeshire from what I recall.
Best regards,
Ian

Hi Ian

Yes, I agree, it's great to find such an informative forum and better still to find it so friendly. Thank you re: the dog shots (I have many, and I mean, many ha!) Yes Tenby is in Pembrokeshire.

We had a fabulous holiday with our dogs in your area a few years ago. We stayed in Bellmullet, Co Mayo. The countryside I found is different to Wales but equally as stunning. I couldn't get over the deserted beaches and sparkly sand!!! The furthest north we drove was to Sligo. I remember we stopped at this beach that had lots of surfers but it was quite small and we also met a lady with a troop of 3 legged collies who was from Yorkshire, but living in that area of Sligo and was involved with the Irish equivalent of the RSPCA. We also travelled south as far as Galway, which reminded me of Aberystwyth, probably because of it being a university town. Ha, I also remember the bumpy roads!!! I believe that they have improved. Of course from here we can easily get to Dublin or Rosslare on the ferry from Fishguard or Pembroke and we keep saying we will pop across the water and stay maybe in Kerry but you know, never seem to get round to it.

Hi Sandi,

Have you been to Barafundle? (Barafundle Bay Beach, , Wales UK)

One of the best kept secrets in Pembrokeshire. Fab beach and very quite.

If you go to the Swan, Paul & Tracey are the owners (local as well). Say Caroline (Montgomery) and Fen said "Hello" :)

Hi Fen - will say 'hello' to Paul and Tracey (I expect they probably know Huw Evans who is also a freelance photographer - he is a native of Little Haven - Huw Evans Images ). We met when he came out to photograph us shortly after we moved here from SE England on behalf of the Sunday Times who were doing an article on people who have left the rat race and 'escaped to the country' to remote locations. Well, hardly call Pembrokeshire remote but with some creative photography were able to get some convincing shots out at Martins Haven, with Skomer Island in the background. When it featured in the paper, readers would never have known that actually it was taken on a Bank Holiday with all the tourists were out having a walk-about on the headland. And worse still, my dogs didn't want to face the camera - they were more interested in supplementing their diet by snuffling up as much rabbit pooh as possible - it was funny and certainly tested his patience and photography skills! Anyway, that was our 5 minutes of fame!

Barafundle is fab. And another favourite of ours is Marloes Sands and Sandy Haven. And more recently we went to the beach at Saundersfoot - had a lovely time and I've put some photos in the gallery on here.

Hello to another Pembrokeshire girl. I've just joined the forum today.
Hi Everyone :)

My name's Sandi and I am new here. Looking forward to picking your brains (so be prepared!!! ha! ;)).

I have recently upgraded to a D90 from a D50 and am really determined to learn as much of the techy stuff as I can to really get the best out of the camera, albeit the techy stuff tends to give me a brain twist!!!

I live in a beautiful part of the UK in Pembrokeshire, West Wales and Pembrokeshire being the UK's only coastal National Park, am spoilt for things to photograph - well, in my case to practice photography! ;)

I also have 3 lovely dogs who I am forever photographing in 'action' on the beach etc.

Sandi :)

Hi hillwalkinggirl. welcome to nikonites. I haven;t stuck my head around the door in here for waaaaay to long but its nice to see new faces joining from our neck of the woods. I actually managed to get to Pembrokeshire in the spring of this year. We camped between Tenby and Saundersfoot and spent a day in Tenby. The following day we walked fromthe campsite to Saundersfoot which is another beautiful place. HOping to get back down there soon and explore some more. Unfortunately I didnt get many photos but did enjoy the views!

Hi hillwalkinggirl :D (Big Wave) and kinda neighbour!! I haven't been here either, like Red Kite, for ages, so great to have a nudge. You have the camera I'm thinking of getting but I don't think I can part with my D90 so am saving up for a D7000 - especially as it is at least waterproof! (considering all the rain the heavens have dropped on us here in Pembrokeshire just lately). I'm actually a native from Hertfordshire, 20 miles north of London but much prefer life here in Wales (rain an all!!!).

Hi to you both. We're so lucky to live in beautiful Wales. So many people from here have had to move away to the cities to find work, my eldest daughter included. She works on Canary Wharf, whereas I work 150 metres from the beach. I think I am the luckiest. The coast path from Saundersfoot to Tenby is one of my favourite walks and we usually walk it most weeks during the summer. I will put some local photos on soon.
