Not sure if this is really classed as flowers as such... but spotted these while walking along a cliff top in the Channel Islands recently

I bought a package of wild flower seeds in the spring and seeded in the backyard. Well, this fall we got some interesting flowers. Line cut a few and made this bouquet that I photographed and processed a bit too much to make it more "painting" like.

The "painting like" effect works well on these. What did you use ?

I used photoshop "oil paint" filter in 2 steps. I used it once on the full size image and then after resizing for web (1000x600 at 72 dpi) I applied it again. This allowed me to get 2 different size textures. I also applied a mask on the second one to slightly blend the bigger brush with the smaller one.

So frustrating just discovered that the Oil Painting filter is no longer available in CC 2014 its been removed.

I know... But I kept the older version just for that. I think you might still have it on disk if you did around a bit. I know it was available to me when I searched my hard drive.

All your pics are very good but you seem to be striving for more. So - what is your ultimate goal from sharpening ?

Do you want crisp or bold or subtle or more detail or what ? I know subject matter makes a difference, but where are you aiming.

I personally tend to over sharpen but thats what I like. What do you want the person who looks at your pics to see and feel.

There is no one answer to this

I'm trying to find some sort of approach that works for all flowers or anything else with such shapes or image build-ups. Once I discover that, I no longer need to waste much time with that and can move towards the next subject.

It's perfect when people's first thought is "a rose" instead of "a picture of a rose". I fear that's still a long road.

A couple of sunflowers... these were huge flower heads... bigger than I have seen before.
One is still just about OK, but

the other... poor thing has seen better days and is collapsing :(
