Are We In The Minority?

I think a lot of people start Canon as they market to the beginner demographic better here (Australia) - also their glass is usually cheaper.

Do you carry both around the same time? That will raise some eyebrows on a few.
I do carry them both at times. One day another photographer commented that he was happy to see someone else carrying two cameras besides himself. He asked what I was using and I told him my D7100 and my Canon 70D. He was really confused to say the least. We chatted for a few minutes and then wee went our separate ways.

My impression is that there are more Canon users than Nikon users. This year, the group I'm working with on Friday nights is 5/3 Canon/Nikon.

I'm willing to bet that it has something to do with the amount of television advertising that each company has hired over the past 30 years or so. I seem to remember a whole lot more Canon ads than Nikon ads. In fact, the earliest television ads between the two that I remember are all Canon. I believe that Nikon has put more of the ad resources into the print media. (An example is while I remember ads for the Canon AE-1 Program, I can't recall a single ad for the Nikon FE on television.)

I could be mistaken, but it's what I remember.

I totally agree. As compelling as the print media ads are, they do not reach as large of mass audience as TV ads do. It certainly has nothing to do with product quality, where I still feel that Nikon is No. 1. They just need better marketing. Of course, do I wish everyone had a Nikon? He'll no. Let's keep them to ourselves.

Why do you have aD7100 and 70D, pretty much the same camera.

I actually like our current body lineup - good feature break-downs for every price point unlike Canon that focuses more on modern lenses since they tossed out all the legacy ones. Lenses are good and all, but sensors affect the quality if not more.

The ability to use 'old' lenses on current bodies, albeit with limitations, was a big part of my moving to Nikon. I have a few Canon FD lenses that are now good for very little.
