I took a photo for test only. I need your feedback which pp is better. This young lady is a worker in a workshop. She was so kind to help me out with the test shot.

#3 has the highest contrast and more detail....although I like #1 too. It depends on what you're wanting to achieve! I like both, but #3 by a hair (no pun intended)

I like #2

#1 looks a little soft, and #3 a bit much contrast for me.

I agree with Blacktop, I like the second one best.

The main thing is what are you looking for and the one you think meets your goal? Not sure if I worded that correctly, but I hope you understand what I mean. You're gonna get lots of different answers from us.

I would like that the look is natural. I went through my old threads and photos and saw that the pp was not that good as I thought in the first time.

#1 out of cam - Raw just convert to JPEG

#2 just added a bit sharpness and converted to JPEG

#3 added sharpness a bit more then #2 and a bit contrast.

I think that #2 looks not that bad #3 looks a bit overdone but o.k.. That was what I saw the most in my old threads.

Thanks so far for your feedbacks

I prefer #1. To me, the third photo renders her skin tone a little too dark. It doesn't look like it would be her natural color. In the second one, her hair is a little too light. Compare the hair in the first photo against the hair in the second. Although there is more hair detail in the second photo, the overall color of the black seems to be slightly washed out. Not sure if you could take photo #1 and dodge (lighten) the hair just a tiny bit to bring out subtle highlights.

When it comes to portraits, there are a variety of techniques and styles that are possible. Personally I prefer females (especially babies and children) to be a little soft with less contrast. I don't mean out of focus soft...just not overly sharp. I prefer the emphasis on sharpness when it is appropriate to depict portraits that are more gritty--such as age lines and/or wrinkles depicting a hard life or having texture emphasized. If the portrait is a male worker wearing a hard hat, I'd probably emphasize the sharpness and contrast more. Just my preference but not everyone will agree. But #1 is the one I like the best! :)

#2, but it could use some sharpening on her only, and then possibly some vignetting centered on her face to separate her from the background a little better...

Excellent portrait!

It's a toss up between #1 and #3.

I like #1 because it has a soft look and I like #3 for the rich colors but a little contrasty for me.

There's a program named "Portrait Professional"... It produces excellent portrait PP... You might download the trial version, and run a few test shots thru it... and see what adjustments that software makes that constitutes a better portrait... and either buy the software (I did because it's so good and fast)... or once you're familiar with what changes need to be made, you can probably replicate those changes with PS...

Micheal - I like to use Black and contrast a lot with the RAW files. I would probably just adjust the WB to create a little more natural skin tone. I like #3 but I would decrease the skin tone just a tad.

looking at the 3, #2 is the balance between them. the contrast in #3 is too harsh for a portrait. looks like its starting to resemble HDR and for a female, that wont do.

now I will say something about the image. the image was shot fine by you. composition is fine and exposure is nice too. but there are other things in it thats bothering my eye. her expression is not relaxed but theres not much you can do here. maybe shes embarrassed or shy or uncomfortable but it makes me feel awkward looking at her feel awkward.

the other thing is the color (WB) is off here. too flat on one hand and bumping saturation will kill the portrait. needs a little tweaking.

contrast also is flat but adding contrast like in the 3rd brings out lines in her (quite) smooth skin. so maybe an adjustment layer and adding contrast to her eyes a bit and lips and hair but leaving her skin undone is better, the background can also use some.

one eye is more closed and its really visible in the 3rd picture. catch lights are too big.

sorry to be anal but the small details is what makes a portrait elite.

this is shot as is, street portrait and there is no control of the lighting so you deal with what you have.

I dont need a lot of time to analyze a picture so when I saw the picture, I said, yea ok. but its missing certain things to make it great.
