Zeus is a lot harder to photograph due to Tank getting in the way all the time...

You got some great bird shots with the new lens Scott. So I take you are happy with the Tamron ?

Have you found the need to use it with a tripod at all ?

I actually think it is lighter than my 80-400VR so have not had the need to use a tripod as yet. An yes I am happy, so much so that I have given my 80-400 to my Mother.

I have read a lot of reports about this lens, and while most say it is handholdable, there are a few that say a tripod is a must to get sharp images.

I guess it comes down to your strength and technique, and a steady hand would help as well.

Like any lens it takes some practice and sure you can get sharp shots using a tripod with any lens, but you should be able to get sharp shots handholding aswell if you set up your camera correctly and use solid technique. I had some not sharp ones but you get that...
