Apologies Jake, I must have read the thread title wrongly?

No, Dave, you're fine with the recommendation, it just came after Mark (Glevum Owl) stated that he had purchased the CC offering. So when Mark said, "Thanks for that. I'll check it out and see if it plays nicely with LR & PS. The price is certainly right.", I wanted him to be aware that there's not a lot there that isn't already a part of the LR/PS workflow. Had he not already laid out his money I probably wouldn't have said a thing.

As a "front end" RAW Converter (the equvalent of ACR) it does a great job. However there are those who complain about its speed etc. Right now it is the ONLY RAW Converter that applies your Picture Controls and is the ONLY RAW Converter compatible with the D810 and is the ONLY RAW Converter that will allow you to apply the new FLAT Picture Control retrospectively to older Nikon DSLRs.DG

I rather like NX-D mainly because I can place all the tools and thumbnails on my secondary monitor leaving the main editing screen blissfully clean which I wish LR could do. I got some reasonable results quite quickly though slower than LR possibly due my familiarity with the latter. Speed of operation was pretty good, certainly faster than DxO so no idea why there are complaints.

Pardon the newbie question but what are 'Picture Controls' and 'FLAT Picture Control', please?

rocketman122: re: ACDSee, as I said earlier, if you're happy, I'm happy.
The scroll wheel trick is clever but no use to me as I'm keyboard junkie / touchpad & tablet user. And, to be honest, after the introduction of non-destructive editing there's now way I'd go back. To each their own.

I did see the ACDSee offer price of $75 until the end of July. Other software houses also have or had deals. I thought the only way to record packages fairly was to quote the 'normal' price.

When you take an image with your Nikon it will have been taken with a specific Picture Control (PC). Neutral, Standard, Vivid etc.

When you open the image in NX-D the PC is applied and should look exactly like your preview image in-camera with Exposure Compensation, sharpening, WB etc. Fourth Icon down, under EDIT. You can change the PC in software.

Flat is a new PC added to the D810 which you can now apply to all previous camera NEFs. Clarity is also a new control which you can also apply retdospectively.
