Blacktops journey with the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens

Did a whole bunch of shooting on a Sunday afternoon. (Sounds like a good title for a thread):)
This is in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

I found out something about this lens. (maybe this is true with all UWA lenses). You can not shoot anywhere near facing the sun without having an ND or polarizer filter on it. This is my only lens with a 77mm filter thread so I don't have any at the moment..
I did manage to save a few shots in lightroom however.

Two things one have always to take care of, with the extreme wide angle lenses: 1) there is a tendency of capturing *everything* in the scene, thus producing lots of empty space in the background/foreground; 2) one has to hold the camera in such a manner to avoid adding to (inevitably huge) amount of perspective distortion (unless, of course, one WANTS to have the objects distorted)...

This is what I have found. You have to hold the camera level to the horizon. You will normally get a lot of foreground when you do this but it will make correcting the distortion a lot easier. You can always crop the blank space at the bottom out.

There is a heavy equipment graveyard a few miles down the road from us, so I took Stevie Nicks out with Don Henley attached and took a few shots.
Some of these are in my 365 as well so it may be redundant.

Here is my train shot with my 11-16

This lens is so much fun to shoot with. Also able to get shots that I would have missed before.
Sweet train shot Don. Yes this lens is a lot of fun. It's my main lens right now on Stevie Nicks. I tried to attach the Sigma 70-300 on her earlier and she almost threw up. Poor girl.:(

I still love my Nikon 70-300 and my Nikon 18-140. The 18-140 is my workhorse. I think the other two will spend pretty much equal time on the D7100.

I sold my Nikon 18-55mm & Nikon 55-200mm along with the D5100. The new 11-16 rounds out my list. 11-16, 18-140 and 70-300. Not really sure I want anything longer than 300 for my shooting. My wife shoots a Nikon 18-200 on her D7000 and she loves it.

Thanks Tyler. I just remembered I haven't posted anything in here in a while. Thanks for reminding me.
If you're following me on Flickr, look for lots of new shots next week.
I'm going to Louisiana and taking a swamp tour. I can't wait, and that should be interesting.
