Godzilla 2014

Saw the midnight showing last night.

My stepson is a HUGE Godzilla fan (at age 12), he has most of the movies on DVD. He was stoked when I surprised him with the tickets! I'm not a Godzilla fan per se, but I'm a big movie buff. I have to say that I was skeptical after the 1998 Godzilla...which by fan standards was the worst of the series.

Anyway...who's seen it, and what did you think?

It's getting rave reviews from the fans and critics, with a few random poor ratings. I thought it was okay, but they definitely could have cut it down to 1:30 instead of a 2 hour movie. There were some pretty boring stretches.

Since Hollywood is running out of ideas and rehashing a bunch of old movies, this one was a successful reboot in my book.

No spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet!

I'll be getting it as soon as it comes out on bluray. I haven't gone to the movies in years. The cost is highway robbery.

Agreed.

I grew up in a small town, and even when I was a kid (80's and 90's) movies were only $1. Now, it's the last theater standing in this county, and they still only charge $3. The community actually saved the theater last summer. They were going to have to close their doors because movies aren't 35mm anymore, and the theater didn't have $40,000 for an HD projector. A Kickstarter project saved the place.

It's crazy what it costs to go to the movies. 3D tickets + concessions for the two of us was almost $50. Ticket prices around here are cheap compared to larger cities, it could've easily been double that.

I watched it last night. I like the sound effect and it is the original character unlike the previous version.

Coming from a military point of view, it sucks including the main character. it might be convincing for the rest who doesn't have military back ground operation experience.

it's ironic that I only knew two of the actors which are the two star admiral and the Japanese guy who starred from The Last Samurai. The other actors / actresses needed some improvement Imo.

The movie however is entertaining and it depicted the original Japanese character as being a hero.

I block out my military knowledge with most movies of this nature. It always gets me with the WHOOOSH noise they use when a LAW or TOW missile is fired. WHOOSH? Nope!

Does this mean the pew pew pew sounds when they show a laser being fired isn't correct either? At least I know the lightsabers in Star Wars are correct sounding or my whole movie world would be completely shaken.

I'm not ex-military, but yeah...that's something I often shake my head at also. You'd think by now actors would at least hold a weapon correctly.

No, no. Light sabers are real. My neighbor swears by it. Lasers? I haven't heard the real thing yet.
