Anyone ever buy from Phototools.com?

I prefer About pages that actually tell something about the company.

Might see if they sell thru eBay or Amazon. If so then there will be customer ratings.

They show a Tamron 150-600mm in stock. Cannon mount. They are sold out everywhere is why I ask.

Something looks fishy about this website, too simple for a company that would have all that inventory on hand for sale. I had some time to kill and I reversed searched a few of the random images that popped up every time I reloaded. A few seemed to be grabbed from other websites. I found two cropped so the watermark could not be seen. I'd skip this place.

Wow, how does one do that?

I have Firefox, not sure how it works in other browsers.... right click image... copy image location (sometimes you need to first click show background image, then rt click again to copy image location). Go to google.com, click on images, then click on the little camera icon to search by image. Put your cursor in the box and paste (windows.. cntrl-v) the url that you captured with the rt click. It sounds complicated, but only takes a few seconds.

Step 1 - Find out about the physical location. Given the claims on this website, they should have a large facility. I've found similar sounding claims on websites only to discover that the address led to an apartment complex, which is an obvious red flag. These guys pass this one:

Step 2 - Is the site legit? A quick search on iwebchk.com determines a pass on this one too, but barely. A low score here means the business has a very poorly done website and social media presence. Another good tool is ScamAdviser.

Step 3 - Read customer reviews. Complaints on the site itself, on social media, or on scammer/BBB type sites are a huge red flag. Phototools.com gets a pass here also.

My assessment: 90% safe to use. In other words, I would tell you that it's okay to use...but I wouldn't advise my momma to use it. I've never heard of these guys, and they seem to be new in the biz. I don't see any red flags, but there are a few orange ones. I wouldn't give them a credit card number.

If you're bent on ordering from these guys, call them first.

Called, they seem legit only because they told me it was actually out of stock and had no idea why it showed one in stock AND they didn't try to sell me anything else.

It clearly states it is back ordered.

Me bad:(. I'll try to do better.

Here is one you could call tomorrow 9:00-4:00 EDT. Their website states "call for availability", which probably means out of stock, but they have been in business for almost as long as I can remember, so a good source to keep.

I plugged their physical address into google, and walked up to their front door in street view... Big building with camera adverts all over the building on a nice street... Looks like they take Paypal if you're afraid to use a credit card... looks legit to me...

Can't ask for more than that! Thanks
