How much does your pack weigh? I have a great pack, it's just that my lenses are so big,, at least the FX ones. Then add in all of my memory cards (teehee), and I have a monster pack. By the way, I have a waist belt on my pack for added support.

I don't know how much my bag weighs fully loaded, but in my Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag I can fit one camera, the 105mm, 18-35mm, 24-70mm, and the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 and accessories. It's tight fit for all of those because a lot of lenses used to be smaller than they are made today. There are lots of dividers inside the bag, and I removed some of them since these are larger lenses. If I were to use the bag for the 70-200mm lens, it wouldn't hold much else besides the lens and camera. I don't want to go with a larger bag because it will be even heavier. Wearing it around my waist is MUCH more comfortable than carrying it with the shoulder strap. It has both the shoulder strap and waist belt. The belt folds away and fastens inside the back with snaps. The shoulder strap can be removed if desired.

I haven't yet taken the 70-200mm out for enjoyment yet (bought it mostly for local high school drama photos). However, that's why I bought the Think Tank belt and holster. I can also take a smaller bag with 1-2 lenses if I want as I have a couple of smaller hip packs.

Heres a question in relation to the lens , can I use it with a teleconverter , I had the kenko 1.4 tc in mind but was not sure on a dx if I would lose 2 stops as what normally happens when using teleconverters.
I know it's only the middle it magnifies but just thought I would raise the question in case I spot one at a reasonable price.

With a 1.4X you should be fine with either lens. The f/4 will become a f/5.6 which should still be bright enough for the D5200 to focus with. Beyond that (1.7x, 2x) I suspect that focusing on all but the brightest days could be problematic. The f/2.8 should work fairly well with all 3 TC's, though I suspect they both might work better with Nikon converters vs. the Kenko.

hey Krs -2007 noticed in your gallery your f/4 has a tripod collar , although not shipped with one and so many available on ebay what did you choose for that beauty of a lens , some nice shots there too.:)

I went with Nikon version, but found out there are other brands. I dont recall but heard they were just as good. I haven't read the responses above but wanted to reply anyway to let you know the route I went with.

Only seen the kenko version on Amazon so was not sure how bigger price gap there is £145 for the kenko.I have heard some say its a little on the loose side. However my experience has been some have been pretty tight to fit on , but this was my last camera Olympus , with a manual teleconverter to boot.
I will try when get chance to track a nikon down and see the price difference. Thanks chaps.

Thats a big hike , especially when I might only need one now and again depending on what I'm shooting of course .
Nikon love charging high prices , tripod collar is another bone of contention .

cheapest place to purchase seems to be Amazon UK , but would it be a grey import, much rather have a UK stocked one .

Adorama sells this lens for $1465.00 inc shipping @ £872.00 , cheapest deal yet, anyone used Adorama to ship to blighty .
Or would I be best served using a UK supplier and paying more , it's around £100 cheaper than UK tho .

Ok guys , just before I place the order on monday , I spotted a candidate and as the prices go they are pretty close , wondered how many of you would buy the Sigma 2.8 70-200mm rather than Nikons f4 .
Obviously the weight difference , get a monopod for that , but what of IQ and build would you still buy the Nikon over he Sigma , I woild go for 2.8 for the added light advantage , now I'm torn between them help please Im going mad.:mad-new:

@hark just went through a situation where she wound up canning her Sigma 70-200mm because it wasn't performing well. She opted for the 70-200mm f/2.8 as she has specific low light needs. Perhaps she can add details. You're talking 1 stop, which in certain situations is a big deal. But high ISO performance is getting better and better, and lets just say I've yet to run into a situation where I cursed myself for having an f/4 - at least on longer zooms.

I know but its so tempting when the prices are so close , Nikon build quality and futureproofing is better , and the Sigma is 4 years older .
The Nikons gonna tronce the 2.8 for sure but by how big a gap .

Nikon f4, but you really seem hung up on 2.8. You need to buy what you really want otherwise will always question whether you should've got the other. The tamron 2.8 VC is rated closest to the nikon

If you are considering a tc, I'd stick with Nikon all the way around for use with all your current and future lenses. I'll probably end up with the new Nikon TC 14 since I can use it with my 70 to 200 F4 and any current/future lenses which may be compatible. I think it would be foolish to end up with one lens TC combination which can't be used with anything else.

How's CONgel treating you Syracusans, Rick? Do you golf? My brother and I usually get together when I come up in July. If you golf, we would enjoy your company. I like the Links @ Erie Village in East Syracuse...good prices and they have GPS on their carts.

Also, when you mentioned in this post that the Tamron is rated closest to the Nikon, rated by who? Just wondering. I also was wondering if you want to spend a day or two at the Syracuse Nationals Car Show taking some pictures? Let me know. It would be nice meeting up with you when we come up.
