More and more I am gonna using my Nikon 55-300. Now I love it. I am happy I didn't follow my "Wants" to buy a Nikon 70-300. This goes goes for my other gears as well. I am happy and proud what I have and that I can use it now much better. The saved money goes in my next vacation with my family.

I wanna add that yesterday my wife was going to to buy me a D7100 cos my birthday is around the corner. I told her I don't have a need for it and she should put the money into our vacation account.

Wise decision. I'm sure you'll be back from the vacation with memory cards loaded with interesting photos!:encouragement:

You could have sold your 5100 for your vacation $$$$ ...and accepted the D7100....:)

To sell in Thailand is very, very difficult cos there is not a big price-drop and no one loves a second hand one. No, I am happy with my D5100. My daughter is the first candidate to get the 5100 but she loves the D80 now.

So no needs for new gear.

The last few days I was looking at so many beautiful awesome photos and thought what great cameras to people have. And I asked myself should I change to a new camera.

You know what, I tell you something that you already know, it was the composition, the subject and the rendering that impressed me not the camera someone uses.

But what I consider is that I will get a new lens. A wide-angle is now in my mind. Just taking other style of shots.

Michael you are a wise man. Like you I love my D5100 and know that it is the photographer not the camera that makes the difference.
But I think it isn't too far away now to the point where you will be ready to upgrade and well deserved it would be too.

and give your wife a hug from all of us for being such a cool lady!

I am also happy with my camera. I like it simple and do not use any advanced features. If at all I get another one it will be for (in order of my priorities)
. More MP
. AIS lense support (D3xxx do not)
. Live view in tethered mode (D3xxx do not)

A wise observation. As I'm fond of saying, if you want to take better photos study composition; everything else will follow.
