I tried that - or thought I had in elements 11.
The basic photo was disappointing. Probably because I was a bit slow. I saw the shot with the sun out, shining on the leaves, but by the time I took it the clouds had covered over and the effect was lost.
Not satisfied with these so I went and tried my Kenko 1.4X tele converter with my 70-300mm lens on moon shots.
VR off, on tripod auto focus, and self timer was a disaster - need to work out why (hint)..
Hand held was better but sharpness definitely suffers with the TC on

For me the top shot is sharper. What you gain with the TC on for the bottom shot is not worth the image degradation....you don't get that much more moon
Did you crop these out at all? I'm impressed
Hello my fave Oz Sheila (is that how they spell it?). Me impress YOU - now that is impressive.
Yes big crop on both - even with a longish lens on they only take up a small part of the overall image.

nice moon shots L. The detail is superb. If you look real close, you can see the American flag waving in the breeze (not). I did like the pictures though....wonder what the moon would look like if you used a color filter or chose a color for the moon in post production?

Actually that would be a cool idea - I'll play tomorrow as it is bedtime for me. Duh - obviously if the moon is out … :tickled_pink:

Yeah....I mean you could do all sorts of things to the color of the moon and still keep it's amazing detail.

My flatmate and I have been eyeing these mushrooms in the garden with a view to shooting them. I guess we waited too long as the snails got in first.
Oh well the compensation is that my Yongnuo RF - 603N remote trigger and flash sync arrived today so I can start using off camera flash and add another little dimension to my artillery.

Great moon shots Lawrence!
Thinking back to my astronomy days, there used to be special "Moon filters" that reduced the glare and helped enhance the detail... There were just coloured filters, but they were like a green / grey colour.... I will have a snoop and see if its possible to make a custom colour filter in post......

What a fun day. I started off testing my remote trigger and flash system. Not even really trying to do anything clever - just having fun playing. "Small things amuse small minds" - whoever said that sure knew what he/she (there you go ladies) was talking about.
For my efforts you can share my apple.
Then later I went out and tried a few assignments as per Rob Sheppards Landscape PDF. Again nothing special except trying different settings. I will spend a bit of time studying the effects later but submit a few here for general viewing.

Sorry I want to put the next two as a separate post as they are the same photo processed differently.
The difference is obvious but I can't decide which I prefer.
I processed the first one and then thought it would be nice to show the detail in the shadow.
However I am not so certain.

It's the second one for me Lawrence, the deep shadow in the first is a bit distracting, and the blue sky is nicer with a bit more warmth
Same goes for me
