Great idea, and extremely well executed!! I really like it.
That said, I'm finding the remnants of the dot pattern a little distracting in the bokeh in the wider stripes (mainly at the top in the blues and magentas). But outside of perhaps shooting at f/2.8 and focus stacking a bit I'm not sure how you could have executed it differently without a wider piece of backing paper. Maybe at a duplicate layer, apply blur, mask and paint in the blur as needed. Like this (done in PSE11 - not sure what you have available to you)...
Really nitpicking to even bring it up, because it's a well executed concept and a fantastic shot.

Go for it Wendy It is not my original idea after all I hope to do some more of these sorts of shots, just need some different shaped vessels/glasses now. Had the idea in mind for ages but had no suitable backdrop. Found some last weekend so bought 5 rolls of brightly coloured patterned wrapping paper to use
This shot got to 700 last night on Pixoto. Only stayed there for a short while but not bad for not yet even being on there 24hrs. Quite chuffed!!

Decided to give this a go on Pixoto and it got a 3rd "best of day".......that's cool
